Chest lock

 

Central Europe, early 17th century

 

Malleable iron. The lock case comprises a support plate and an openwork cover plate featuring pierced ornamental foliage and flowers. Two-lever locking mechanism inside. Engraved and grooved spirals on the octagonal key case for a hollow-shank key. A fixed part with punches and a long hinge hammered into a trefoil is attached. Decorated with grooving.
